In Yorubaland, these attire was worn by the early fathers. Consisting of three parts, the sokoto or kembe,a long sleeved shirt and a wide open-stitched sleeveless gown worn over these.
Guns and ammunitions were stored in the sokoto during war and the over-gown was used to cover it.
It is usually covered with intricate embroidery and worn on special occasions. These has become a fashionable form of attire, adopted by groomsmen for their wedding party, party guests, final year students of different institutions and the list goes on and on.
