Reaching Out From FUNAAB to The World

FUNAAB AFTER 4 WEEKS

It's been 4 weeks since resumption and  the start of the sessions hustle and bustle, fresher's are finally beginning to settle down and staylite's having resumed are trying to fit back into the school's life, after the what seemed like a forever holiday. So I want to discuss a few things I have observed so far.

Starting with the newbies, they haven't had an orientation, a matriculation or the SUG's hosted fresher's party (asides the illegal party for COLMAS freshmen) and this is definitely a very big disappointment when compared to the time stated in the academic calendar for this session and yet these students have paid their acceptance fee, school fee and even matric number's has already being dished out, this dosent speak well of funaab.

However, they(freshers) seem to be enjoying their early days in this land. I see them with broad smiles, mingling well with each other, their dress sense is just perfect for the modelling world, but for FUNAAB, it's a research in progress, because most of them would forget to dress heavy when the school hits them hard. I only hope they get the coded message the school has been throwing at them, hope they do not regret coming to this citadel of knowledge.

Then, there is the issue of lectures. First three weeks has gone and we are yet to have a standard timetable, at least a lecture is moved every week, even course's from second semester are being forced into the already jampacked timetable. My timetable currently feels like a riddle am frantically trying to solve, I ask my HOC for the courses we have at different times, everyday, because they aren't just stable. Most times, lecturer's don't even show up and the day end's up wasted. Am not a workaholic that enjoys lectures,  but at least give me a reason to come to school the next day.

Mancot! Mancot! Mancot! this is a tiring issue. Going from that of overloading and overspeeding to the harassment and oppression of students by man 'o' war member who are students themselves. I still don't see the reason why the school still let's them operate, they are meant to maintain order when students are queuing to enter the buses that's all, you don't hear people complain about the FRSC member as much as they do the man 'o' war, I know quite a number of students who will give everything to see this organization get their as* whooped. The school has given them the power and we hear power corrupts, but in FUNAAB, we've seen it corrupt.

So I noticed that the male hostel has finally been repainted and a big of maintenance has been carried out, also the construction of the new hostel as well as some other buildings are being carried out as well, although, the maintenance of the male hostel is long overdue, but we are glad the school is finally taking a step into light, at least they focusing on something better than the lawn's now. But a whole lot of lecture theatre's still needs ventilation touches, especially YAKUB and JAO 3.

Talking about sports, it's hard to say but I have come to realize that the number of people participating in sports compared to the parliaments of the student body is little or nothing.

Sporting infrastructure provided by the school is not encouraging at all, the other day, I was on the "brown" field that is meant to be green and what i saw amazed me. The football team and the atheletes shared the same coach, so I wondered "is it really difficult to employ different coaches for these teams".

So this session I have decided not to just complain but play my part by joining the lawn tennis team. And also encourage people close to me to participate in sports other than football. I look forward to a time when we can have a team for each sport that exist in the sporting department.
FUNAAB still has a long way to go, and the movement starts now, we can either let the rest of the semester burn away as the first four weeks have, or we can do something about it, the school is not "the VC" , WE ARE THE SCHOOL.
PEACE
